Shepherd Overton Earns Prestigious MAI Designation

Shackelford & Associates is pleased to announce that Shepherd Overton has been awarded the Appraisal Institute’s prestigious MAI designation. By earning the MAI designation, Shepherd has joined an elite group of appraisers who have met rigorous requirements relating to education, testing, experience and demonstration of knowledge, understanding and ability.

The MAI designation requires the successful completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a comprehensive exam, a written demonstration appraisal report, and 4,500 hours of qualifying experience. MAIs are recognized experts in appraising all types of real estate.

Becoming an MAI designated appraiser is a difficult and time-consuming task. Only a very small percentage of appraisers attain this level of achievement. In reaching this goal, Shepherd has demonstrated his commitment to excellence in providing our clients the highest quality work.

Shackelford & Associates now boasts four MAI designated appraisers as well as three appraisers with the SRA designation for residential appraisers, also from the Appraisal Institute, an appraiser holding the ARA designation from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and an appraiser who holds the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) designation granted by the American Hotel and Lodging Institute.

Matt Hawk earns ARA designation

Matt Hawk was recently awarded the Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. An ARA conducts valuation work on a wide range of property types that exist in rural parts of the country. These properties are often among the most complex properties from a valuation standpoint and require a sophisticated valuation expert to properly appraise them. An ARA has demonstrated through course work, experience, work review, and a comprehensive exam that they have the expertise required for these complex valuation assignments. Mr. Hawk’s experience with rural properties includes agricultural land, conservation easements, hog farms, and poultry houses. In addition to his ARA designation, he has his MAI designation through the Appraisal Institute.

Mr. Hawk’s new designation demonstrates his commitment to going above and beyond the minimum requirements of the appraisal profession to provide our clients with the highest quality work.
